Wine is extremely sensitive to temperature changes. The optimal storage condition should be a consistent temperature between 52-57°F (11-14°C). High temperatures can cause wine to age too quickly, lose its flavour, colour, clarity, or spoil altogether. In contrast, excessively cold temperatures can obstruct the ageing process and diminish the flavour. A freezing environment will cause the liquid to expand in the bottle and consequently explode. While high humidity levels can deteriorate labels and foster mould development, insufficient humidity can parch corks and give way for air to penetrate, causing oxidation and decay. For optimal wine preservation, the recommended relative humidity range falls between 55-65%.
