‘Beyond Limits’ is an ongoing series of selling exhibitions which have taken place annually at Chatsworth House in Derbyshire since 2006. It is one of the leading displays of modern outdoor sculpture and is therefore considered to be a major event every year in the world of art. This year, in 2016, the exhibition is set to run from the 10th September until the 30th October and, in the same manner as every year so far, will include contemporary and innovative sculptures from widely renowned modern artists.
Over the past years ‘Beyond Limits’ has amassed the work of a wide range of international artists such as Dale Chihuly, Damien Hirst, Thomas Heatherwick, Manolo Valdes and Barry Flanagan. Flanagan is a late Welsh sculptor who was famous for his bronze statues of hares, such as the one above as seen in 2012 with Chatsworth House in the background. Valdes is a Spanish artist now residing in New York and Heatherwick is another British artist who is perhaps most famous for creating the Olympic cauldron at the London Olympics.
Damien Hirst is the richest artist in the UK and possesses a great international reputation, largely due to his work with the theme of death. The artwork above, from the 2006 ‘Beyond Limits’ exhibition, belongs to Dale Chihuly who is an American air-blown glass sculptor and has exhibitions all over the world. The 2016 exhibition in the impressive grounds of Chatsworth House will certainly contain an equally exciting line-up of artworks belonging to a similar group of contemporary artists.
